Group announces number of journalists and media workers killed in Palestine

The US media advocacy group Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) said today, January 25, that at least 83 journalists and media workers were among the more than 26,000 killed in Israel attacks on Gaza and the West Bank since October 7, 2023.

They include 76 Palestinian, four Israeli and three Lebanese journalists and media workers, CPJ said.

Sixteen journalists were reported injured, three were reported missing and 25 were reported arrested, it added.

The CPJ said it also documented “multiple assaults, threats, cyberattacks, censorship and killings of family members” of media workers.

“CPJ is investigating all reports of journalists and media workers killed, injured or missing in the war, which has led to the deadliest period for journalists since CPJ began gathering data in 1992,” it addedd.

“Journalists in Gaza face particularly high risks as they try to cover the conflict during the Israeli ground assault, including devastating Israeli airstrikes, disrupted communications, supply shortages and extensive power outages.”
